The Indian Textile Industry is as diverse, large, colorful yet full of complexity like the country itself. The industry employs about 35 million people and contributes to
approximately 4% of the GDP of India and 17% of the country’s export earnings. Other statistics are available with websites of the Ministry of Textiles, CITI (Confederation of Indian Textile Industry) and the likes, to give an overview.
Purpose of this website is to provide high quality and useful management information to the investors, buyers and budding managers involved in the business of textiles in India. The textile industry in general has many unique features that makes it difficult to be understood from the view of FMCG, Consumer Durables and even Service Industry specialists. Perhaps this is the only large scale industry where each order is a customized one more as a rule than exception.
In the Indian context, there is a need to change the old mindset of doing business in a sellers’ market which had vanished long ago. With my long experience of marketing and
manufacturing in the Indian Textile Industry for over 33 years, I have seen many downfalls and successes of textile companies depending on whether the top management has an outdated and short term approach or a modern, customer centric and vision oriented game plan. Many of my friends, colleagues and business associates have been suggesting me to start a website, sharing my rich experience in the Indian Textile Industry for the benefit of the new and established business people and professionals and this blog is created with that inspiration. I shall be more than glad if this blog is found to be useful to them by any means.
